National Policy Dialogue on the Problem of Suicide

National Campaign for Sustainable Development Nepal concluded a national level Policy Dialogue Programme on the problem of suicide (SDG Indicator 3.4.2) on 3 June 2022 in Kathmandu. Main objective of the programme was to expose the situation of suicide in the country among the key stakeholders, which is related with SDG3 (Health and Wellbeing). The event concluded that the rate of incidents of suicide has been rapidly increased in the country particularly after COVID 19 pandemic. Cases of suicide is not only mental health issue; it is also directly related to the economic and social problems of persons and their families. It is also a serious human rights problem. During the programme Dr. Pashupati Mahat has the working paper on the situation of suicide in the country, where as civil society activists Mr Shantalal Mulmi, Pinky Gurung and Mr. Sudarson Subedi have shared the experiences, how minorities and marginalized communities are vulnerable to the attempts of suicide.
